    DSR 190 4.3 Alpha to a 5.7 Reverse Bravo

I have a line on a 5.7 Reverse Bravo cheap, almost given to me. What should I look at when it comes to the swap?

Whats a reverse bravo? They spin either way.

Carb? Motor mounts, cables same? Mounting the bravo and possibly cutting and finding transom rotten

    Yeah...what ^ he said.
    WTF is a 'reverse Bravo'?

I've never heard of a small block hooked to a Bravo One...if that is what you're hinting at.

they were used with the lt1 .in 1994 the lt1 used in ss impalas ,corvettes and ta ,z28 was a reverse rotation motor.i have 2 complete motors and one with the aluminum heads right from gm but could not use them, they are the tuned port type motor with the auto spark under the water pump that goes bad when they get wet, made a lot of power,i think they went from 94 to 97 when the ls took over they are 350

this would be a reverse rotation 350 lt1 motor ,if you could find the one that came in the black ss impala with aluminum heads and the flags on the front fender, you would have a rocket . if you remember the tool man had one that he got in a lot of trouble in and lost his licence.

well, that's a nice little history lesson on a CAR ENGINE...what the hell is a Reverse Bravo and what possible use would it be in a boat? Or is the 'Bravo' just coincidentally named and not referring to any sort of outdrive at all?

Not sure this will work. I found a thread where Jaytee explained all i/o mercruiser are LH rotation and all the bravo drives will only work with that do to the spline cut or something.

    https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...-rotation.html

Here is the thread. Dont know if there is a RH rotation bravo.. wouldnt think there would be if they dont even make RH mercruiser?

Re: DSR 190 4.3 Alpha to a 5.7 Reverse Bravo

The deal fell thru, but it was a reverse rotation 350, with a Bravo outdrive out of a twin 350 boat. I was told that a Bravo does not care which way it turns, but an Alpha does, hence I could not use the motor with my Alpha.

All bravo’s and alpha’s use standard rotation( l/h when viewed from the rear) neither will operate with a reverse( r/h rotation engine, which is used primarily in inboard or v drives) rotation, the clutches in both won’t lock up when rotated oppositely.... Bravo’s can run either right hand or l/h rotation props, how the cable is connected at the shifter determines which way it rotates when whichever direction is selected.....it is just selecting if the top or bottom gear ( in the upper) is being driven... an alpha, to get to run a l/h rotation prop has to have a l/h rotation lower....another issue with an alpha( even if the clutch wasn’t an issue )would be the water pump in the drive, it won’t pump any water turning backward
