Welcome My name is Rick Behneke and I have a 1997 Baja Islander 180

I am from Murrells Inlet, SC. I love my Baja Islander, and have been steadily throwing money at it trying to get it looking good and running great! Right now I got the carpet ripped out of it and trying to fix some soft spots in the floor. The best part of it all is I have no idea what exactly i am doing!! Any help or suggestions (ie. where to find the same color carpet and what to use to secure it ) would be greatly appreciated.

You'll learn everything from these guys here lol. 3m makes some great adhesives if you're glueing the carpet directly to the floor. If you're doing a removable carpet, snaps would be the best. Go any pics?

    Welcome aboard!

Search around some and you'll find several awesome build/rebuild threads on Islanders. One in particular was on a 208 Islander done by a member named catman1:

I've had my '92 208 Islander since Day One, bought it back in November of '91, actually. Best boat I've ever had, and still looks new and draws many, "No WAY that boat is 25+ years old!".

And yes, we'd all love to see some pics of your progress.

i own tims 1988 sunsport that i think had all the floor compleatly rebuilt and it was done perfect. ,you might want to ask him some questions about how to finish it with glass that looks factory. i do not believe there is a lot of these left. nice job tim.i am currently replacing interior ,motor and accessories but the floor is perfect. also new colors and paint.i have been delayed a little but should have it ready along with the 272 for next season.

I’m not exactly sure how yours is built. Is there wood under the carpet? I replaced the entire floor from the dash to the transom in my 186 Sunsport. Found foam between the stringers that were water soaked. To make a long story short I rebuilt some things differently to solve some problems that I seen. Since my floor was wood, I got some carpet glue and carpet from overtons, but you can find that stuff lots of other places on line as well. Now, my 212 Islander has a fiberglass floor. With no carpet currently, but I think I’m going to get some snap in carpet because the white floor is hard to keep clean. If you have any specific questions about your floor let me know. I answer the best I can. My name is Tim by the way.

Welcome to the site! I have only been a Baja owner for 2 years now but have owned boats previously. People on this site are very helpful and can give you lots of insight on how to and what to do, to what not to do.
Everyone here has been helpful in my experience. I bought my boat used and have been fixing all the problems that the previous owner didn't do and the new ones that will eventually pop up. The best advise I could give you is this.
Do it right the first time. If it costs a little more to get it done right, bite the bullet, lay out the dough and fix it right. You will save yourself a lot of headaches and cash in the long run. Enjoy the new boat!
