    American Modern Insurance

    Guys,

DO NOT use these guys, if only because they severely screwed me over on a very simple claim on my 98 Baja. I will come back to writeup the whole saga but many of you already know it. They basically will claim anything to get out of paying and in the end say "sue us if you want your $".

Wakezone was NOT my broker, just so you guys know.

Please remember to read all your policies very very carefully.

    Re: American Modern Insurance

Nope I had them on my 22TC, but switched when I got the 33 because an unnamed broker (heck I don't remember the name anymore) put me with AMI. I figured hey, he specializes in Hi-Performance Boats, so I should trust him. Never again.... Next time I will go with Allstate most likely.

    Anyway the short story is:

Went out for a cruise up the Hudson River on a nice sat with my wife and 2 friends. Went up to the Tappan Z bridge from Liberty State Park. Had lunch then came back down. Right under the GWB a huge yacht was in front of me, so I decided to go out over the wake. Right in the trough of the wave where I landed, there was a floating log/tree/pole and I landed right on it at the stringer. It ended up punching a hold in the hull to the stringer. I limped her back to Liberty State park in some pretty nasty winds and waves, during which time, the hull peeled back and the stringer soaked up the water. Take the boat out and find the damage once it was on the trailer.

AMI, claimed that it was "prior damage" or "owner neglect". My argument was, A) You took on the policy without checking it out beforehand, you bought into it and then decided you didn't want to insure it after it got damaged? B) I had a survey from when I bought it C) I have 3 witnesses that saw us hit the object.

So now we will likely be going to arbitration. Hopefully the truth will prevail in the end. I will keep you guys updated as events unfold.

Damn, I have followed your story all the way from day one on the other site and can't believe the BS you have been going through. I really thought it was progressive so thanks for the heads up. I have AMI and will be making a call in the morning to have this taken care of.

I didn't use Wakezone as my broker, it was another broker suggested by that other baja site....

Had I used Wakezone, I may not have been where I am right now....

Question... Did you give your survey to the broker prior to writing the policy?

Nope neither they nor AMI asked for it. Was my first big/expensive boat, didn't even know I needed one!

    Re: American Modern Insurance

How is going through a broker different than going direct with the insurance company? Does the broker help with a claim?
