    Bad motor

I have 454 mag that I just rebuilt and I've got a knock in it. it's not a rod, but it almost sounds like it is. We brock the motor back down and can't find anything wrong. If any oun might have any thoughts please let me know. Thanks 'HOOD RICH 272

Let Haefner look at that thing. I'm not a motor guy so I can't help you.

Just throwing this out there.... was the motor back in the boat when you ran it and heard the knock or did you bench test it? If it was in the boat could it have been the coupler or something banging around and you thought it was a knock? Just throwing it out there...not sure how loud it was what you heard...

True, could be the internal flappers as well if they are metal...the rubber tips on them could have melted off and are clanging?

My guess is the coupler. My 272 with a 502 in it was noisy too.

    Re: Bad motor

Rod knock would be VERY obvious!!!! Like someone inside the motor hammering on it...
