    Ethanol in Fuel

Been reading alot of info on Ethanol issues in the fuel especially on the 496(8.1L) older models. Seems it likes to seperate(Phase Seperation) and let the water in the fuel contaminate the fuel system as well as the octane rating drops drastically within a couple weeks. I used to be a guy that said store your boat full of fuel and add Stabil I've now switched my stance to store it as low as possible and add Stabil. They make a Stabil for Ethanol fuels and on the bottle it's recommended to add with every fill up, but at the tune of around 25.00 I'll have to say I'll pass. I'm still using the red Stabil as I have a stockpile of it. Just some FYI for those of you in the midwest that they're boats sit for 6 months at a time. Could be ALOT of water in your fuel the first tank as well as very low Octane ratings. I'd highly recommend changing your water/fuel seperators yearly for those that don't.

    Re: Ethanol in Fuel

So far I have not had any problems. I was concerned last year when we had a very cold winter by our standards here in Alabama with temperatures below freezing for 2 weeks straight and lows around 13. I was not sure how that might affect any water or ethanol in the fuel but everything was fine this spring. At least I think it is. The 496 seems to be running very rich this summer and I'm down some rpm, most likely not related, but it is always hard to determine the exact cause of something like that, even if you find out how to fix it.

I will be very concerned if they start putting more than 10% in however. That will not be good. Of course, from what I have read, it is stupid to be putting it in anyway as ethanol from corn is an energy neutral process at best.
