    Question 272 454 Mag prop suggestions ?

I am new to the forum and just bought my first Baja . It's the 385 horse 7.4 and the boat had a 21 mirage three blade on it when I bought her , which isn't even close to where it should be ( almost instantly at the rev limit ) I tried a 21 plus as well and still saw 5200 rpm . I am thinking about going with a merc rev4 23 pitch. Anyone else running anything similar with the same set up ?

You need to try a 23p Mirage Plus...Might need a little tweaking afterwards, but that should be the ideal prop for that boat. Or if you do more cruising than speed and want to feel of being hooked up in the water try a 22p Bravo prop.

    I had a 272 with a 502 and it liked the 4 blade over the 3 blade...I ran a 22p Bravo for pulling tubes,skiers,wakeboards and a 24p Bravo labbed for speed. Saw 70 on GPS @ 5000rpms

Also for future reference when referring to your motor for questions use 454Mag as there was a 7.4L 330hp 454 and most see 7.4L they assume..

I've never run a 4 blade on the boat, but as Irish said I run a Bblades labbed 23 M+ and love the way it works. That prop is junk out of the box, the purpose built lab job IS the kicker. "Set up" is everything and on our stock boats that mostly means the right prop and lab job, and learning to use the trim and tabs.

cool .... I have a re-worked 23p m+ just didn't get a chance to run it yet . anyone run a rev4 ? A friend of mine has a 98 272 w/454mag runs a 21 rev4 and is seeing 4900 rpm . He loves the bite but has no gps top speed ...all he has is that gauge that lies to you on the dash . I can't see the 21p rev4 being enough especially after I blew out that 21p m+ for fun ! I was thinking the extra bow lift would be better for running in big water !

I wouldn't think the 21 is enough prop if your motor is healthy. Brett at Bblades knows your boat better than anyone in the business. Unless you know for a fact that your prop "work" was done specific to your boat it'd be worth it to send it to WI and get the right set up. JMO

PS I believe we've neglected the most important part..... Welcome aboard and CONGRATS on your new boat Brutha!!

I ran a 23p Mirage Plus at first then after learning more info off the forums switched to a 24p Bravo labbed by Bblades and when towing skiers and tubers I used the 22p Bravo. Both worked well for speed and functionality for getting up on plane quicker and keeping the boat more solid in the water IMO.

Thanks ! I am anxious to get at it ..... it's going to get used for alot of open water ( ocean ) commutes . I live on a river that opens up to the atlantic and there are sevral dock side locals with restaurants and entertainment anywhere from 30 t0 60 miles from my dock ... I had a crownline 225 ccr and have heard nothing but good about the open water capabilities of the outlaws and 272's ! I am excited and am waiting for spring ! does Bblades also sell props ? Can I buy one , have it worked and shipped before hand ?

yes they do and they also do a prop testing deal where they ship you a prop let you test it for a couple of weeks and if you like it you can just buy it i think it is like $35.00 per test possibly plus shipping by the way i have a 23p mirage plus that i am probably going to be selling as i am changing engines over the winter and know for sure i am going to need more prop possibly up around a 26p Ed
